Detailed mockups
The staff needs a way to inform other staff members of a resident that requires short-term warnings before they can complete a task. The warning is a preventative that would assist the resident and staff to avoid complications.
Challenge
Adding a new feature to enhance the experience of this SaaS Fynn Community platform that would allow users to make short-term documentation for warning concerning a resident within a senior living community.

Persona
Name: Michael D.
Age: 38
Education: Bachelors of Science in Nursing
Hometown: Atlanta, GA
Family: wife and baby daughter
Occupation: Nurse
Michael is a husband and father working full-time as a nurse at a senior living community. He wants to be notified about residents within a community who require special attention for short-terms. It is hard for him to know what residents require special assistance or what new, additional items are needed for those residents who already require special attention. Communication is lacking at the community level because staff members do not have a specific place to make notes that are not about the shift change or incidents that occur.
Pain Points
Timing
The staff need a way to set the dates for the warning. Currently, they do not have a way to do that.
Accessibility
Have a visual indicator for the staff to quickly see when a resident has a warning.
Ease of Use
Have more than one way to add or edit a warning.

If/Then Statement
If there was a way for the staff to communicate to the other staff members about short-term alerts for residents, then the resident would receive the proper treatment when the staff does a task with them.
Goal Statement
Our Community platform will let users notate short-term warnings which will affect other staff members and the residents of a senior living community by assisting them with knowledge transfer for times certain residents need special attention during a task or upcoming event.

Dashboard Temporary Warning Widget
I designed the widget with the specifications established for our widget components.
-
I selected the Icon from Google Material Icons to place it to the left of the header.
-
Allow the user to scroll to view all recent Temporary warnings.
-
Display the resident's name as a hyperlink so that the user can view more details about the warning.
-
Show the date and time the warning was created.
-
Sort the warnings so that the newest addition is at the top.

Resident Profile View: Active Temporary Warning
After the clicks the hyperlink for the resident, the user will be navigated to the resident profile page. At the top, they will see that the center, right will have the Temporary Warning(s) listed. Once the time period, which was noted during the creation of the warning, has expired the temporary warning will no longer be active, but it will be listed there for the records.
Adding Temporary Warning(s)
To add a Temporary Warning for a resident, the user would select the '+' on the Temporary Warning module or "Add Temporary Warning" button of the Temporary Warning table. This will bring up a pop-up modal for the user to input details.
The user can select from one option or as many as they need. There is an option for the user to select a standard message for ease-of-use so that it is a quick note; or the user can provide their own custom warning. Three other important options they can select is for Required Documentation, Anti-Resistant Infection Warning, and Dietary Warning.
Resident Profile Page: Temporary Warning Table
(warning added - in context)
Everything the user has inputted will display here for others to view. To edit the note the user would double click the message to prompt the edit pop-up modal to appear on the screen. The modal will look the same as the Add Temporary Warning except with the name change appropriately to Edit Temporary Warning and the prefilled information that would be edited.
Resident Table View: Active Temporary Warning
Another location a user can view a list of residents with Temporary Warning is the Resident table. There, the user can select from the filter to view or not view residents listed with the warning. When they select to view the residents with the warnings a visual indicator will display by the resident's name. The actual reason for the warning is listed in the Temporary Warning column on the right side. The position of the columns were based on the order of importance. Therefore, we determined that this new column had to go to the end.

Usability Findings
The overall test went well, but two points were made during the findings.
-
The users need a way to know that the warning is no longer active but visible in the history of the resident’s profile.
-
They are not sure how many words they are allowed to put in the free-form text fields. What is the character limit?
Iteration Resident Profile View: Inactive Temporary Warning
User wanted a visual indicator to quickly see when a Temporary Warning is active vs when it was inactive with the option to view a history of previous warning. I designed the header to not have the colored band when the warning was inactive.

Conclusion
Impact
After the iterations, the new feature was a success that was well received by everyone using platform. It allowed better communication across the staff so that they could assist the residents in a more efficient way as they are now aware of what needs to be done for each resident’s temporary situation.
What I learned
There are more than two or three ways that a team of staff members at a senior living needs to communicate about different situations a resident needs help. Each situation requires a different form of communication than our last feature. It really is fascinating to see it all come together.
